Rug origins

Iran Iran is the cradle of the Persian rug. Every town and every tribe has its own design: the medallions and floral scrolls of Tabriz, Isfahan, Nain or Qom, the more geometric compositions of Bijar and Kurdish rugs, the freedom of nomadic gabbehs. Hand-knotted in wool, sometimes highlighted with silk, they are pieces made to last for generations.
Turkey Turkey — ancient Anatolia — has a long weaving tradition: kilims with geometric motifs, knotted rugs and cushions cut from hand-woven pieces. Colourful, warm pieces that bring a touch of the Orient to a sofa as to a whole room.
India India carries on a knotting craft inherited from the Mughal workshops: refined floral designs, fine wool and sometimes silk. Elegant pieces to discover at our Geneva showroom.
Afghanistan Afghan rugs are recognisable by their thick wool and deep shades, often obtained from natural dyes. Kazaks with bold geometric motifs, Mohtashem, Samarkand, Baluch rugs, as well as flat-woven kilims and soumaks: many are knotted by refugee families who carry on a craft handed down from generation to generation.
China Chinese rugs form a category of their own. Pastel palettes such as sky blue, ivory, gold or powder pink; motifs drawn from Chinese culture with dragons, phoenixes and lotus flowers; pared-back compositions with wide plain fields. Rugs that bring a discreet, sophisticated note to a classic or a contemporary interior alike.
Russia This origin brings together rugs from the Caucasus and Central Asia: Kuba, Shirvan and Karabakh with their bold geometric motifs, Beshir and Bukhara with their characteristic guls. These old designs, handed down by the workshops and tribes of these regions, bring character and depth to an interior.
Tibet Tibetan rugs are knotted with a technique of their own, in highland wool known for its softness and durability. Our selection gives pride of place to contemporary creations — pared-back motifs and calm palettes, often highlighted with silk — as well as gabbehs and kilims. Rugs that settle naturally into a modern interior.
